Pain Management Overview

Library of General Pain Management Information:

Pain is a multifaceted ailment that impacts every aspect of daily life. Integrative Pain Services, P.A. offers state-of-the-art treatment for many painful conditions. However, truly effective treatment requires that we listen to each patient and address every area of your life that impacts your pain. This includes your sleep patterns, nutrition status, body weight, and fitness level.

Because pain is such a complex disease, it takes a multi-disciplinary approach to treat pain effectively. We work closely with many other specialists (including neurologists, psychologists, orthopedic and spine surgeons, physical therapists, oncologists, and psychiatrists) to optimally coordinate the care of our patients.

A treatment plan will be outlined and recommendations made to help you achieve maximum functionality in your daily life and activities. Frequently, patients improve significantly with a few simple procedures but some patients have more complicated pain problems, and we will work with you to establish an effective treatment plan that will address your individual needs.

The support of your family is a vital part of your care. They are always welcome and encouraged to attend appointments to learn more about your condition and treatment plan or to have their questions or concerns addressed.

Keeping fit:
Regular weight-bearing exercise can contribute to your physical and mental well being. Physical therapy and home exercise may be recommended as part of your treatment plan. A good diet, regular exercise, avoidance of tobacco products, and normalization of poor sleep patterns can help reduce stress and decrease pain symptoms.

Staying active:
It is important to maintain activity, although you may need to avoid some activities entirely or do them a little differently to work around your pain. Focus on what you can achieve, set realistic goals, and follow your personal treatment plan. Even if you are unable to work, volunteering or meeting others in a social setting can help your mental and emotional state.

Dr. White took the approach that there is always a way to address any issue and he never gave up on finding a solution that worked for me. Every interaction with Dr. White and his staff has been completely positive and I could not recommend him and his practice more whole-heartedly!
